VW to Unveil the New Golf 6 at the Paris Auto Show
Volkswagen will unveil the new Golf 6 model at the 2008 Paris Auto Show in October and will start selling its top-model in Europe shortly after.
VW has redesigned key elements of the current Golf to give the new model a sportier and more distinctive appearance than previous generations of the car. The wide grille is similar to that of the new Scirocco coupe. It would also have new diesel engines with common-rail injection technology and new Euro 5-compliant petrol and diesel engines up to 28% more fuel efficient than current engines.
These would include a 110hp, two-liter diesel that uses 4.5 liters per 100 kilometers and emits 119g/km of CO2.
Automotive News reported that the redesigned Golf would be offered with adaptive chassis, automatic distance control and parking assistance for the first time.

The cheapest version of the new Golf 6 will cost 16,500 euros (25,570 dollars), about 200 euros more than the current model.
Last year, VW sold 580,000 of the current Golf 5 model.
VW chief executive Martin Winterkorn said the company hoped to sell 600,000 of the new model during its first full year of production in 2009.
Volkswagen has sold more than 26 million Golf cars worldwide since the first model rolled off the production lines in March 1974.
