2008 Paris Motor Show: Peugeot Prologue HYmotion4

The Prologue HYmotion4 is a five-door, near-production concept SUV-styled hybrid crossover that's intended to compete against models such as the Nissan Qashqai.

Peugeot said the Prologue will be a diesel-electric hybrid. The concept is based on the same platform as the 308 lower-medium car.

Prologue HYmotion4 concept is in many ways the opposite of the RC HYmotion4 concept also unveiled in Paris.

Peugeot said the Prologue HYmotion4 demonstrates progress made towards an ambitious and promising goal: an electric/diesel power plant with a dual transmission system which opens up the possibility of 4 wheel drive: a technology known as “HYmotion4”.

The Prologue puts HDi FAP diesel engine at the front with the electric motor going at the back.

Both engines operate independently or together for a maximum power of 147 kW (200 bhp) and a maximum torque of 300 Nm at the front and 200 Nm at the rear.

All HYmotion4 concepts can be propelled by either the engine, motor or both. In rear wheel drive electric only mode, speeds are limited to about 30 mph by the 36 hp output.

Peugeot claims combined fuel consumption of 4.1 liters/100 km or 52.3 mpg U.S., while emitting 109 grams of CO2 per 100km in the combined cycle. Running in electric mode, the Prologue has zero emissions.

A production version of the Prologue concept will be shown at the Geneva auto show in March. It will go on sale starting in the summer of 2009.

According to Automotive News, in addition to the Prologue's likely production in France, Peugeot will build the production version of the Peugeot Prologue concept in Russia.

PSA will start production at its new joint venture factory with Mitsubishi in Kaluga, Russia, 180km southwest of Moscow, in 2011.
