Geneva 2009: Protoscar LAMPO Electric Sportscar

Swiss design company Protoscar SA unveiled LAMPO electric sportscar at the Geneva Motor Show.

LAMPO is powered by two BRUSA electric motors (one rear and one front), optimized for maximizing acceleration and regenerative braking respectively. They deliver a total output of 268 HP and a torque of over 440 Nm.

The lightweight Lithium-Ion battery pack with a capacity of 32 kWh allows for a range of over 200 km (over 120 miles).

The interesting thing of the LAMPO electric sportscar isn't directly related to the car itself but from where it gets its electrons. The exploitation of solar power has been possible thanks to a remote 16 kWh photovoltaic plant located in Seggiano (
Tuscany). Unfortunately, the output of the plant of just 16 kWh means that most of the power it can produce is less than what the car needs.

Protoscar said that Lampo’s vehicle charger is programmable to allow the operator to choose when the car charges and how much electricity to accept.
