Peugeot will present the iOn electric car at 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show later this month.

Based on the Mitsubishi i-MiEV, it is a 4-door all-electric Peugeot that is powered by an electric motor that can develop 64HP and 180Nm of torque with maximum speed of 130 km/h.

The new iOn can go 130km on the European driving cycle on its lithium ion batteries. The iOn’s batteries can be charged in 6 hours using a conventional 220V socket or up to 80% in 30 minutes via a fast charging system. It’s powered by a 64hp motor with 180Nm of torque.

The Peugeot iOn is a part of a deal announced last week between Mitsubishi and PSA that outlined plans for a Peugeot and Citroen version of the all-electric i-MiEV.

The iOn is not Peugeot’s first electric car. With the 106 produced between 1995 and 2003, Peugeot, the pioneer in electric vehicles, remains to this day the manufacturer having sold the most "zero-emissions" cars in the world.

The auto maker also revealed that the 200HP 3008 HYbrid4 will arrive in spring 2011. It features an all wheel drive configuration and releases 99 grams of CO2 emissions per kilometer.
