Suzuki will unveil a plug-in hybrid version of the Swift hatchback at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show.

Japanese company will also feature an all-new Alto Concept for the minicar segment and the SX4-FCV fuel cell vehicle, shown earlier in 2008.

The Swift Plug-In Hybrid features a series hybrid system that incorporates a small 600cc internal combustion engine, mated to an electric motor. Like Chevy Volt, the Swift Plug-In Hybrid uses the electric motor to move the car, and the engine acts as a generator to help produce power.

The engine will generate 54-horsepower and the electric motor will produce 74-horsepower. The Swift Plug-In Hybrid offers an electric range of about 12 miles (20 km).

The SX4-FCV delivers superior running performance by means of a 80kW GM-made high-performance fuel cell, a Suzuki-developed 70MPa hydrogen tank, and a light, compact capacitor that recovers energy during brake application and uses it to reduce fuel cell loading during acceleration.

Suzuki is testing the SX4-FCV on public roads in Japan and use the results in development aimed at future commercialization. The SX4-FCV has a top speed of 93mph (150 km/h) and a range of 155 miles (250 km).
