Geneva 2008: Toyota Introduces Production Version of iQ City Car
Toyota's new iQ minicar will be its most fuel-efficient model. The iQ will have CO2 emissions of 99 grams per kilometer. First shown as the Concept Car iQ at last year’s Frankfurt Motor Show, the iQ will go into production in late 2008.
The iQ will have the choice of one of two gasoline or one diesel engine. These engines—along with the compact design, low weight, and aerodynamic shape of the iQ—will contribute to low fuel consumption and low emissions of CO2.
Like all automakers that sell cars in Europe, Toyota is under pressure from European lawmakers to cut its CO2 emissions. The European Commission wants to introduce a regulation to cut average fleet CO2 emissions of new cars in Europe to 120g/km by 2012 from about 160g/km now.
Currently, the Prius gasoline hybrid has the lowest CO2 emissions of all Toyota cars. Its CO2 emissions are 104g/km.
The production iQ was being unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show yesterday.

The 3+1 iQ seats two adults in the front, one adult in the back and a child behind the driver.
