UK Approves £20m Grant for Nissan Electric Car Plant

British Prime Minister David Cameron confirmed £20 million ($28.88 million) grant to Nissan to support the production of electric cars in the UK.
Cameron last week said that he wanted to electric cars to be built in Britain but was unsure if the 20 million pound, assured by the previous government, would be granted.The company said in March it would begin building the Nissan LEAF electric compact car at its Sunderland plant in northeast England from early 2013, making Britain its third global production site for the zero-emission vehicle.
The purchase price of the Nissan LEAF in the UK is 23,350 Pounds after government incentives. The UK government recently announced that it will refund 25 percent of the purchase price of a pure electric vehicle, up to a limit of 5,000 Pounds. The Nissan LEAF goes on sale in the UK in February 2011.
