Toyota Prius Hybrid is Best Selling Car in Japan in May

Toyota's Prius was Japan's best-selling car in May, clinching the top spot in the domestic market for the first time and overtaking Honda's new hybrid, the Insight, which fell to third.

2006年5月XX日 Toyota sold 10,915 Prius hybrid cars in May in Japan, more than twice the 5,079 units sold in May 2008 and compared to 1,952 units in April 2009, according to data released Thursday by the Japan Automobile Dealers Association.

Honda's Fit compact was in second with 8,859 units sold while the Insight sold 8,183 units after nabbing the top spot in April.

That means for the second straight month, a hybrid car topped the sales rankings in
Japan, reflecting the popularity of green cars.
