Ballard Signs Fuel Cell Supply Agreement with Daimler
Ballard Power Systems has received a $24 million contract from Daimler to supply its FCvelocity fuel cell products for Daimler’s fuel cell car and bus programs.
Canada-based Ballard Power Systems is specializes in hydrogen fuel cell technology. Last year it sold its automotive fuel cell assets to Daimler and Ford, claiming it wanted to concentrate on the commercial market for stationary and heavy duty applications. However, the company retains a 19.1% stake in Automotive Fuel Cell Cooperation, the resulting company the two OEMs set up.The FCvelocity fuel cell products are designed for applications like trucks and buses. Ballard will start deliveries in April 2010.
In June, Daimler has unveiled its latest-generation Citaro FuelCell hybrid bus. The enhanced fuel-cell system is complemented by an all-new hybrid drive system developed in synergy with the Citaro G BlueTec Hybrid.
