E-One Moli Energy Corp. (Molicel) said on Wednesday it is building a new lithium-ion battery plant in Taiwan with production capacity of 12 million units per month.

The expansion will make Taiwan-based Molicel one of the world’s top producers of lithium-ion batteries.

The company says it will focus on the enormous market potent of laptop-computer, cordless power tool, and electric or hybrid-electric vehicles markets.

The new plant is located next to its first plant in the Southern Taiwan Science Park; construction work is slated for completion by the end of 2009.
