2012 BMW 6-Series Coupe Revealed

BMW has revealed the production version of its new 6-Series Coupe ahead of its debut at the Shanghai Motor Show.

Now in its third generation, the new BMW 6-Series Coupe features a sweeping coupe roofline while the long bonnet, short over-hangs, set-back passenger compartment with Hofmeister kink, long wheelbase and flat waistline embody the typical proportions of a BMW coupe more than any other model.

The BMW 6 Series Coupe will initially come with a choice of two turbocharged, direct-injection gasoline engines: a 3.0-liter straight six developing 320hp and 332lb ft in the 640i Coupe, and a 4.4-liter V8 developing 407hp and 442lb ft fitted into the 650i Coupe.

As a result, the more powerful BMW 650i accelerates from 0 to 62mph in just 4.9 seconds and can reach a top speed of 250 km/h (155 mph), while burning through 27.2mpg (10.4l/100 km). The BMW 640i should be good for a 5.4-second 0-62mph (0-100km/h) sprint while returning 36.7mpg (7.7 l/100km) on the combined cycle. The CO2 emissions are pegged at 179g/km for the 640i and 243g/km for the 650i.

Both engines are mated, as standard, to an eight-speed automatic gearbox that, in the case of the BMW 640i, also gets several EfficientDynamics technologies aimed at reducing the strain of the owner's pockets at the gas station, like the Auto Start-Stop function, ECO PRO, Electric Power Steering, Drive Dynamic Control or Dynamic Damper Control.

Other specification highlights include 'corner following' Adaptive LED headlights, optional LED foglights, BMW Night Vision pedestrian recognition, a new-generation Head-Up-Display system that uses a full spectrum of colors and revised iDrive interface, the BMW ConnectedDrive driver assistance systems and mobility services as well as the usual lane-change-assistance devices.
