Toyota has decided to recall the latest model of its flagship Prius hybrid because of a possible fault with the brakes.

Toyota also intends to take similar steps in the U.S. and other overseas markets with the popular gas-electric hybrid cars, Japan Daily reported.

The firm did not comment on the reports, but said it would be announcing soon what action it would take over problems with the Prius.

Toyota has already recalled about eight-million vehicles with faulty accelerator pedals. The Prius fix is unrelated to the sudden-acceleration problems that have badly damaged the company's image.

The brake problem is thought to affect about 270,000 Priuses that were sold in the
US and Japan starting last May. Toyota blames a software glitch and says it has already fixed vehicles sold this year.

The US Transportation Department said last week it was investigating braking problems in the 2010 Toyota Prius after
Toyota admitted brake problems with the model, while the Japanese government has ordered Toyota to investigate brake problems.

3-rd generation Prius was Japan’s bestselling model, while in U.S.the Prius is
Toyota's third best-selling.
