PSA Peugeot Citroen Confirms Diesel Hybrid for 2011

PSA Peugeot Citroen has confirmed its plans to launch HYbrid4 diesel-hybrids scheduled to enter production in 2011.

The first models slated for the fuel-saving technology are the Peugeot 3008 crossover and Citroen DS5 fitted with HYbrid4 technology have already rolled off the prototype assembly line at the Sochaux and Mulhouse plants.

PSA promises deliver a drop of up to 35 percent in CO2 emissions and a ‘considerable’ improvement in fuel efficiency.

The HYbrid4 technology combines an HDi diesel engine and an electric motor located on the rear axle. To support this technology, PSA has developed a dedicated rear-axle assembly on which the electric motor will be mounted. The technology will be portable across several vehicle types, irrespective of the engine type.

Last month, Citroen Racing did some testing with the Citroen C4 WRC HYbrid4 concept car

The Peugeot 3008 diesel-hybrid has strong resemblances to the Prologue HYmotion4 concept shown at the Paris Auto Show last October.

PSA has demonstrated its hybrid technology in a unique range of vehicles, including a standard Peugeot 308 and Citroen C4, the Prologue HYmotion4 concept, an advanced Citroen Hypnos concept and the Citroen C-Airscape. Most recently, a hybrid version of its world-beating Citroen C4 WRC rally car that has proven that this technology has a role to play in the highest levels of motorsport.

Due to arrive in 2011, the diesel hybrid will first appear in the Citroen DS5

Launched at the Geneva Motor Show this year, the Citroen DS Inside heralds a new range of Citroen models that emphasize creativity, strong and emotional styling, quality in presentation and finish, unique driving sensations and functional qualities. The first production car to revive one of Citroen most famous names will the Citroen DS3, set for launch next year. This new model, which will set above the Citroen C3, will be matched by the launch of Citroen DS4 and, with the new hybrid drivetrain, the Citroen DS5 in 2011.
