Nissan announced the launch of the new Nissan Cima luxury sedan, now with a hybrid system, which goes on sale May 21st at Nissan dealers nationwide in Japan.

The new Nissan Cima, now in its fifth-generation, will only be available as a hybrid, featuring Nissan's original one-motor two-clutch parallel hybrid system.

The Cima Hybrid system combines a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with maximum power of 225kW (302 hp) at 6800rpm and maximum 350 Nm torque available at 5,000 rpm with an advanced HM34 electric motor with maximum power output of 50kW (67 hp) and maximum torque of 270 N•m (199 lb-ft) and high-output lithium-ion battery with a quick charge/discharge function.

The hybrid powertrain is being mated to an electronic 7-speed hybrid transmission with manual shift mode.

The new Cima Hybrid achieves both a 20% improvement in fuel economy over 2015 standards and SU-LEV certification, emitting 75% fewer exhaust emissions than 2005 standards, which makes the hybrid sedan eligible for a subsidy and tax breaks under the government's incentive program to spur the purchase of green vehicles.

The Nissan Cima Hybrid is coming with various safety features, such as Intelligent Control Assist (Distance Control Assist Intelligent Cruise Control, LDP (Lane Departure Prevention)/LDW (Lane Departure Warning)/ FCW (Forward Collision Warning) and Tire Pressure Warning System (with tire position display function), along with Air-conditioned front seats with warm or cold air released through seat cushions and seatbacks, navigation, audio system, Personal Position Memory System on the steering wheel etc.

Nissan said it plans to sell 2,000 Cima Hybrids in the first business year and 1,000 each subsequent year.

In Japan, pricing for the new Cima Hybrid starts at ¥7,350,000 (about US$91,500 or €69,000) and rises to ¥8,400,000 (US$104,600 or €79,000).

More details on the Nissan Cima hybrid will be announced on the 21st of May.
