Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Coming in 2010
Hyundai Motor America announced Wednesday that it will show a hybrid Sonata sedan at November’s Los Angeles International Auto Show and will start selling the car in the United States in 2010.
"Our first U.S. hybrid is going to be the Sonata," said John Krafcik, Hyundai’s vice president for product development. The company says it will announce at the show the exact date that the hybrid will be sold in the United States.
Krafcik said the hybrid Sonata can be powered by both a gas and an electric motor, and will have cutting-edge lithium-ion battery technology.
Hyundai has no plans to offer the hybrid Sonata with a plug-in option.
Hyundai plans to start retail sales of 2009 Elantra Hybrid, company’s first LPG-electric hybrid in Korea in July 2009, but it will bring the low-emission midsize hybrid to the North America in 2010.
