Volkswagen will launch a car sharing project called "Quicar – Share a Volkswagen" in Hanover on November 16.

200 specially branded Volkswagen Golf BlueMotion models will be available for short-term rental, initially from 50 stations distributed throughout the Hanover city area.

Apart from the short-term rental scheme, Volkswagen will also offer "Quicar Plus", a longer-term rental scheme with 70 Golf BlueMotion models.

The Golf BlueMotion features a 1.6-liter TDI diesel engine with an average fuel consumption of a mere 3.8 liters per 100 kilometers (61.9 mpg US), corresponding to CO2 emissions of only 99 grams per kilometer, which makes Quicar one of the most efficient car sharing fleets available.

Quicar vehicles will be available at up to 50 locations dotted all over the city, in specially marked parking spaces and multi-storey car parks. In the medium term, the number is to reach more than 100.

The Quicar tariff system is attractively priced and transparent, making it easy for customers to keep a close eye on costs. A first-time registration fee of 25 euros is payable to sign up with the Quicar Shop. Students only pay 15 euros.

The minimum rental time under "Quicar" is 30 minutes, with a charge of six euros for the first 30 minutes and 20 cents for each additional minute. Fuel and insurance are included in the rental charge. If the car is parked, the rental is reduced to 10 cents per minute.

All the cars will have fully comprehensive insurance. Customers who fill up with fuel themselves will be rewarded with a time credit for their next rental. A fuel card located in the glove compartment can be used to fill up the car free of charge.
