Citroen has updated its C5 model range with two lower CO2 engines, one a clean diesel and the other a small turbo-charged petrol engine.

A new BMW co-developed 1.6i 16V THP 155hp petrol engine has replaced the out-going 2.0i 16V 143hp unit.  This Euro-V engine is mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and is available in the VTR+ NAV Saloon.

The new 1.6i 16V THP 155hp petrol delivers 240Nm (177lb.ft) of torque at 1400rpm and an 8% increase in power, combined with an 18.5% increase in combined-cycle fuel economy (7.1 l/100 km or 33 mpg U.S.) and a 16% reduction in CO2 emissions - down from 198g/km to 167g/km.

A new 2.0HDi 16V 160hp clean diesel has replaced the 2.0HDi 16V 140hp and the 2.2HDi 16V 173hp engines.  Also Euro-V rated, this new unit offers the choice of a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox and is available on both Saloon and Tourer models.

The new 2.0HDi 16V 160hp clean diesel provides 340Nm (251lb.ft) of torque at 2000rpm and - in comparison to the out-going 140hp manual C5 Saloon - a 14% increase in power, a 3% increase in fuel economy (combined cycle) and reduced CO2 emissions - down 4% from 153g/km to 147g/km.

The new diesel engine burns just 5.6 l/100 km (42 mpg
U.S.) when mated to a manual gearbox and 6.9 l/100 km (34 mpg U.S.) when mated to an automatic.
